Hallo
Hier Infos zur Uhr:
At last year’s Basel show Seiko introduced their new Spring Drive to the world, with a price of over $3,000 it was the most expensive Seiko ever sold outside Japan. Emboldened by their move upmarket, perhaps they may have gone a step too far with this year’s introduction, which retails at over $125,000.
The Credor Spring Drive Sonnerie is, in its own way, just as important to Seiko as the Spring Drive was. For, whilst the SD showcased Seiko’s technical innovation; the Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie shows that Seiko’s fine watchmaking skills are the equal of the very best that Switzerland currently has to offer.
Historically Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie watches have been the province of only the most exclusive Swiss makers, F-P Journe has made one and AP have also made them in the past, whilst individual watchmakers, like Christophe Claret have made unique pieces for special clients. This makes Seiko’s decision to produce five of them all the more interesting and means that Seiko will be the biggest maker of Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie watches in the world, at least this year. It is worth noting that all of the above mentioned watches cost at least treble the proposed price of the Seiko CREDOR SPRING DRIVE SONNERIE.
It is safe to assume that most people will not even know what a Grand Sonnerie does, so; perhaps at this juncture, a quick explanation is in order. A Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie is like a church clock of old, it strikes the hours as they pass without the user having to request it, like a repeater. Also a repeater’s chiming is powered each time the slide is moved, whereas a Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie must have its own power source if it is not to drain the mainspring and thus adversely affect the accuracy of the watch. The Seiko Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie solves this problem elegantly by having two spring barrels, one each for the watch & the chiming mechanism but both are wound by the single crown, wind it one way & you are winding the watch, wind it in the opposite direction and you are winding the striking mechanism. Winding it with alternate movements, as most people do, will wind both simultaneously.
The Credor Sring Drive Sonnerie is made, entirely by hand, in a new facility that Seiko have established called the Micro Artist Studio. Set up in 2000, the mission of this studio is the development of luxury watches which convey the heritage of SEIKO and the watch industry to the coming generations. Credor Spring Drive Sonnerie has been developed by eight elite experts in Micro Artist Studio of SEIKO Epson since the autumn of 2003. They are, needless to say, the most highly qualified, skilled and experienced watch-makers within SEIKO Epson.
Also not without interest is Seiko’s decision to brand this watch as a Credor, which means that this will be the first Credor to be sold outside Japan
